It always cracks me up when a child shares their age, and then emphatically adds “and a half!” That Half is a really big deal when you are a kid! My son started adding that important notation when he was about 4 and a half. Those six months represented about 10% of his life lived to that point. He wasn’t about to let anyone lump him into the category of a mere 4 year old.
Well, even though this little guy isn’t old enough yet to worry about that “And a Half”, his mommy recognized how important the Half is! So though we saw each other last Spring for his Two Year portraits, she invited me to photograph him again this month, at the truly significant developmental milestone of Two and a Half. Us moms with older children know it all too well … at two years they are still toddlers, with just a few hints of the baby they once were. But at two and a half, the baby is almost entirely gone, and there is a full blown child running around! They are talking, discovering, thinking, pretending, jumping, climbing, dreaming, becoming.
Two and a half can almost be marked as the beginning of childhood. So I think this Half is well worth celebrating in portraits! Kudos, Mom!
