Shortly before our session that evening, Abigail’s mom sent me an email that read, “Warning: Abigail will be wearing full princess regalia. She flat out refused to wear her other dress.” Ah yes, the fashion opinions of a three year old … I know them well. And I must say, I love that we shot Abigail’s portrait session in her favorite princess gown. This is who Abigail is at age three! I applaud her mommy and daddy for celebrating her and all of her young passions, because these days of gowns and tiaras are gone so quickly.
I can still think back on my oldest son at age three, and I remember vividly the red plastic firefighter hat that he wore every single day for a year. At the time, I begged him to take the hat off for our various photo ops, and most of the time he refused. Now I look back at those photographs, at that precious little red hat, and my eyes well up. I don’t remember the last time my son wore that hat. We rarely get a chance to cherish the last time our children do something precious, before leaving it behind in the memory of their childhood. But we can always cherish THIS time, these moments, reveling in the present of their childhood days.
Your Royal Highness, Princess Abigail, thank you for letting me have a little glimpse into your childhood world. It was an honor and a pleasure. One I will cherish.
Much love,
Shannon
