A new baby sister

Welcome to the world, Miss S!

This beautiful newborn baby girl joins a family with whom I’ve been working for a couple of years now. I first met them for their older daughter’s newborn portrait session, and now she is a big sister!

Miss S was so good for her first photography session. She curled up and slept so soundly, and didn’t even get too mad at me for posing her this way and that. Her big brother and big sister are quite smitten with her already. My heart skips a beat to see how even a young child can have such an instant loving and protective nature with his new sibling. Life is so beautiful!

The Suspense | Atlanta Newborn Photographer

I understand the suspense. No matter what kind of session it may be, I know most clients cannot wait to get a peek at the results. I actually must make myself remember that my clients see a session very differently than I do. They might be worried about how their baby or toddler behaved, or how their outfits looked, or if their hair was in the right place. And I don’t have the same sense of anticipation, because I see it all through my lens literally and figuratively, and when a session goes well, I know how the images will look before I even get in the car to leave. So I must remind myself to step out of the photographer role and into the client role, and realize that the suspense might be agonizing!

I got this note in an email today: “The only thing I do on the computer is check your blog….I am dying to get a sneak peek!!!” I won’t keep you waiting any longer! :)

This family was so much fun. They were a newborn session referred to me by my friend, Elizabeth, in hopes that I might have availability on my calendar the week the baby was due. Luckily they contacted me a few weeks before their due date, which made it much easier to fit them in to my schedule. It is such a blessing for Elizabeth and I to be able to help each other with clients when our schedules get overfilled, not to mention the blessing I find in our friendship outside of the photography world.

Their baby boy and their young daughter were both incredibly precious! The little guy didn’t want to sleep at first, but then he dozed off nicely as we spent some time creating their daughter’s portraits. The love in this family was a beautiful thing to see!

Thank you, M Family (and thank you, Elizabeth), for the opportunity to be your photographer as you welcome your son into your family. It was wonderful to meet you all!

A sweet newborn | Atlanta Newborn Photography

This beautiful family called me just a few weeks ago just after their daughter’s birth, referred by another photographer and good friend of mine. Unfortunately, my schedule is jam packed these days, with the peak of the holiday portrait season almost upon us. As much as I wanted to, I just couldn’t find a way to work them in. But then, the stars aligned … I had another session reschedule which freed up a little time in my week. And it just so happens that this family lives exactly 5 houses away from another appointment I had the same day. It must have been fate.

I’m so thrilled I got the chance to meet their beautiful new baby girl. Isn’t she exquisite? She got a little mad at me for all the posing, but she settled back down to sleep soon enough. She was already two weeks old when we met, and thankfully the baby acne has stayed away from her beautifully smooth skin. She had such a sweet rosy glow and that delicately soft peach fuzz hair. To get to photograph a fresh, tiny baby like her … Man, I love my job!

And check out my new favorite baby prop … the suitcase. This is a family who loves to travel, so they said it was the perfect choice for their daughter’s portraits.

Thank you, Sam and Susie, for sharing your daughter with me for an afternoon. She is amazing!

Welcome, Precious Boy | Atlanta Newborn Photographer

He is here! Blog readers met these beautiful expectant parents recently. Their son has arrived at last! He is quite tiny and had to spend a few days in NICU. Happily, his stay was short, and he is home in their arms now. He was 13 days old when I met him. He wasn’t too happy with us for all the wardrobe changes and moving him around. But once I pulled one or two of my newborn tricks out of the bag, he settled right in.

The beautiful blue blanket you see was handmade for him by his great grandmother. I’m hoping she will make one I can buy from her sometime! It was so soft, and the texture and color were perfect!

It is such an honor to be entrusted with family’s newborn portraits. My sense of awe gets stronger every time I see and hold one of these amazing babies, especially as my own kids get bigger by the day. The newness, the tinyness, the wonderful perfection of each infant takes my breath away.

Thank you, Mandy and Brett, for inviting me to play a tiny part in this special time in your life. It has truly been a pleasure. Congratulations!
