A Prayer Answered

My boys say their prayers every night before bed. We start with “Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the Lord my soul to keep …” Then they share with God any specific prayer requests and thanks. Of course, they are young, so the prayers that come to their heart can vary widely. Let’s just say that God has heard, more than once, their yearning for a new Rescue Heroes or Pokemon toy. But every single night, for about the last couple of years, each of them has said, “God, please let Aunt Kim and Uncle Richard have a baby.”

This past Fall, it became apparent to our family that Kim and Richard were not going to be able to conceive. Despite the best medical advice and procedures available, including two unsuccessful attempts at in vitro fertilization, it just didn’t seem probable anymore. And as many of you know, just about the only thing that comes close to equaling the heartache of infertility is the expense. My kids wanted to know why God had not sent the baby we all asked for. I tried to help them understand that only God could answer that question, and that God’s plan was so infinitely wiser than anything we could comprehend. So my son amended his prayer to say, “God, please help Aunt Kim and Uncle Richard have a baby, but if you don’t think that is part of your plan, please help them not be sad.”

This past Tuesday morning, through a series of events that only God could have put into motion, Kim and Richard were introduced to a baby about to be born who would need a forever family. A flurry of emotions and phone calls and conversations and long hours to and from the hospital each brought them closer to their dream of being parents.

On Thursday night, the papers were signed. On Friday, all our prayers were answered. Only three days old when he came home, this precious baby boy is now a part of our family, already surrounded by more love and more prayers than he could imagine.

This Easter Sunday, I have been so beautifully reminded that God is incredible, loving, and faithful. Though he may not always answer our prayers when we hope He will, he always answers them in His time, in His way, in His perfect wisdom.

Welcome to our family, precious baby boy. We have been waiting for you.

They’re here!

Hooray! My first sample Storybook has arrived and I am so in love! Everyone to whom I’ve shown this so far has flipped out over it. These coffee-table books are really gorgeous. Not to be confused with some of the consumer-grade books from the popular online photo developers (and I’m not knocking them – I love them myself for my family snapshots!), these books are truly a lifetime treasure. You will be blown away by the quality.

The photos I’ll share here will give you a glimpse, but you really must hold this book in your hands to appreciate it. The thick laminate pages, the extraordinary printed cover and book cover, the vibrant colors, the satiny feel of the paper … simply exquisite. I’ll be bringing this with me to future sessions. If you want to see it sooner, just call me and we’ll grab a cup of coffee sometime!

Your book will be a one-of-a-kind creation, designed with your own personal touches such as a favorite quotation, a note to your child, or special scripture. For Miracles clients, I invite you to combine images from your maternity and newborn photography sessions, to tell the complete story of your precious baby’s arrival into the world.

Storybooks will be available in the Specialty Items section of my online store.

True Love

I was just archiving this session from a few weeks ago. Before I tucked the images away into storage, I really want to share a few here on the blog. This family was so warm and friendly. Their baby boy was 6 weeks old when we met, so we got a great mixture of peaceful sleepy poses and bright alert expressions. Big Sister was equally adorable and so well behaved. I loved her curiosity about my photo gear, and the way she smiled with her whole face, eyes and all.

You’ll see I’ve modified the blog to allow for larger horizontal images. It has always bugged me that images in landscape orientation have shown up so much smaller due to the constraints of the blog format. PLEASE let me know if anything with the formatting shows up wacky on your end. I’ve checked it through several different browsers and screen resolutions on my side, but since I have a Mac, there could be some Windows users out there that get very different results than me. So please help me out and speak up if something goes haywire!

On another note, March is now fully booked. I only have one weekday session appointment still available for April. Weekend sessions are booked until the end of May, and June is already 50% full! Thank you as always for your enthusiasm for my photography. I can hardly put into words how blessed I feel to have a career as an artist, and to have the opportunity to spend time with such awesome clients and their children. I have been shooting sessions every day this week – it’s been busy! So I will have some more portraits to share here on the blog soon.

I’ve got a little Valentine’s surprise I’m working on. I hope to announce it later today, if I’m able to get some computer time this afternoon to make the final tweaks. Stay tuned!
