Amanda | Alpharetta High School Senior Photography

I really looked forward to Amanda’s portrait session, but I had even more fun than I expected. Chatting with Amanda and her mother as we explored Historic Roswell was the perfect way to spend an evening. She is amazingly photogenic, and so natural in front of the camera. I told her she should be modeling! And more than that, she is beautiful inside. She is warm, funny, intelligent, and kind. I hope my daughter grows up to be someone like her.

We planned our evening session in hopes of some great sunset light, but unfortunately we were dodging clouds and praying for no rain the day of our session. Thankfully the rain held off, but we didn’t get so lucky to have clear skies. Then, as we called it a night and headed back to the car, the clouds parted for about 90 seconds to let a beautiful beam of light fall through! Amanda being the perfect model she was, was ready instantly to pose right where I showed her, where the backlight could fall on her fantastic curly hair. Voila! I love it when that split-second photo opportunity comes together just right!

Thank you, Amanda, for the opportunity to create your senior portraits. You are a remarkable young woman with a brilliant future ahead. I can’t wait to see what life has in store for you next!

Sunset Sessions | Atlanta Children’s Photographer

Hi Friends!

It’s been such a great week, having a little time off work to play with my kids during Spring Break. Tonight I relaxed with my hubby in the backyard while the kids scampered about. And then it hit me … that itch to have my camera in hand. I can hardly go more than a few days without the urge to photograph something.

You see, it was the yummy, yummy light! About 6:00 in the evening, with the warm Spring light filtering through the trees, reflecting off every blade of grass, every curl in my daughter’s hair. I just can’t resist the photography opportunity! I’m such a sucker for backlight.

So it triggered not just my photography craving, but an idea … I’m thinking about offering a special price on Sunset Sessions for a limited time. The sessions would take place around 6:00 in the evening, in the Roswell or Alpharetta area at a location of my suggestion, and would likely be limited in the number of subjects. First, I’d like to see what kind of interest is out there … so drop me a line, ok? You don’t have to commit. Just let me know if you love the idea and would consider a reservation. Once I see what kind of response I get, I’ll nail down the details on price and dates to be offered.

And yes, I gave into the craving tonight. I grabbed the pettiskirt, which conveniently matched the crocs she refused to take off her feet, and captured some of the exuberant toddlerhood in that delicious light. Gee, my girl doesn’t like being the center of attention, do you think?

Julie

I am excited to be venturing back into the world of High School Senior Portraits. I worked with a few teenagers when I first launched out as a professional photographer, but I have focused primarily on babies and children since then. Now that my children are a little older, I have more time to play with some new angles in my work as an artist. Working with adults and teens is a completely different ballgame than working with children. I’m thrilled about the new creative challenge. My high school senior portraits will still reflect my style as an artist, natural, contemporary, and vibrant. Stay tuned to the blog and my newsletter for updates!! In a few months, I will start accepting applications for High School Senior Spokesmodels from the class of 2010, working with all the high schools in the northern Metro Atlanta, Alpharetta, and Roswell areas. Shannon Holden Photography Spokesmodels will get a lot of fun perks and free portraits. Don’t miss out!

In the meantime, I’m exploring my photographic style for teens and adults, and gathering my portfolio of images which will soon be added to my website. And in doing so, I was so excited to turn my camera on this gorgeous young lady from Centennial High School in Alpharetta. Julie has been a babysitter for our family for a couple of years now, and we and our children adore her. She is bright, cheerful, caring, genuine, and lovely from the inside out. She is the kind of gal I would love for my daughter to be one day. And you’ll agree, she is quite photogenic too! I’m going to be so sad to lose her as she heads off to college! But I know she is going to have a blast!

Thanks for spending an afternoon with me, Julie! You are a joy to work with.

PS … Stay tuned to the blog next week to meet Julie’s boyfriend, Daniel!

I enjoyed trying out some new conversions and textures on Julie’s portraits. It is fun to get a little more edgy in photographing teenagers.

They’re here!

Hooray! My first sample Storybook has arrived and I am so in love! Everyone to whom I’ve shown this so far has flipped out over it. These coffee-table books are really gorgeous. Not to be confused with some of the consumer-grade books from the popular online photo developers (and I’m not knocking them – I love them myself for my family snapshots!), these books are truly a lifetime treasure. You will be blown away by the quality.

The photos I’ll share here will give you a glimpse, but you really must hold this book in your hands to appreciate it. The thick laminate pages, the extraordinary printed cover and book cover, the vibrant colors, the satiny feel of the paper … simply exquisite. I’ll be bringing this with me to future sessions. If you want to see it sooner, just call me and we’ll grab a cup of coffee sometime!

Your book will be a one-of-a-kind creation, designed with your own personal touches such as a favorite quotation, a note to your child, or special scripture. For Miracles clients, I invite you to combine images from your maternity and newborn photography sessions, to tell the complete story of your precious baby’s arrival into the world.

Storybooks will be available in the Specialty Items section of my online store.
