And now back to our regularly scheduled programming …

Hello out there! I can’t believe August is not only here, but almost over. I have thoroughly enjoyed the last few weeks of summer with my family and I’m so excited about the Holiday Portrait Season kicking into gear. I’ve been back at work shooting for the last few weeks as well, so I have some sessions I am anxious to share on the blog! On the topic of Holiday Portraits, now is the time to plan your child’s and family’s sessions! I only have a couple of spots left in September, and a handful for October. My weekend session spots are currently full until November. It’s going to be a busy, fun Fall! I can hardly wait!

The first beautiful boy to whom I want to introduce you is Trett. A little while back, a dear client of mine called me to buy a gift certificate for her friends. She told me some of their story, in which they welcomed their first child, a son. In the moments that most of us are reveling in the joy and anticipation of our child’s birth, they were facing some really frightening news and predictions. Trett’s first year has been a difficult journey as they coped with many health challenges and developmental delays. But from the moment I met them, their love for their child outshone all of that. Trett is one amazing little boy, and he is loved, respected, and cherished beyond measure. I am so thankful for clients like these, incredible people who remind me of what really matters in life.

Trett, it was an honor to meet you, sweet boy, and a blessing to spend time with your Mommy and Daddy, and to see the love they have for you. It is clear to see how much joy you bring to their lives.

Much love,
Shannon

Summer Time | Roswell Family Portraits

Undoubtedly one of my favorite things about my job as a portrait photographer … seeing my repeat clients year to year, seeing how the children have grown with each birthday. Handsome Bryant was just a baby when I first met this precious family, and I had the honor to capture his first year in portraits, followed soon after by his baby brother, Benjamin. Now they are both growing into full fledged boys, and let me tell you, they are on the move! It was very hot the day of our session and I was not looking pretty as I followed them from place to place during our session, but thank goodness I’m behind the camera and not in front of it!

The boys will forever have a special place in my heart. Kim and Colby, it is a great blessing to know your family. Thank you for choosing me as your photographer.

Much love,
Shannon

He is Nine | Johns Creek Kids Photographer

My oldest son, now nine years old. Double digits next year. Sigh.

His birthday was in February, but somehow our lives and our schedules were just nuts in February. Are they ever otherwise with three kids?? And so, I didn’t get around to creating his annual portraits until April. And I didn’t get around to even editing them until this past week! It’s like I tell my clients all the time … Especially when it comes to older kids, what matters is that you DO capture them as they grow year to year. It doesn’t matter if the portraits don’t happen ON their birthday!

I’ve learned so much about my son in the last two years. We’ve had some highs and lows on this journey. I think the lows make you appreciate the highs, and the climb in between makes you so much stronger. I can see the strength developing in my son. As he grows, I am thankful for every step I can take to understanding him better. It is so exciting to see the young man God is creating him to be emerging from the child I’ve known these nine years. Of course, it’s hard, too. He’s growing up. Soon, he won’t run to me for hugs several times each day. He won’t be excited for me to hang around with him and his friends. He won’t ask me to cuddle with him before bed. So I cherish every bit of all those moments now, before they are gone.

My son. Loving and generous. Bright and creative. Sweet. Sensitive. He has a passion for animals, and an even bigger heart for God. He sleeps with dozens of stuffed animals in his bed, when we let him get away with it. Loves science, hates math. He reads for hours every day, and when he puts down a book, he often picks up a pencil to work on his own novel. (He’s on chapter 14!) He knows almost as much about the Bible as I do, and many things I don’t. He would live in our backyard if I let him. He remembers everything he’s ever read or experienced, and never remembers to tie his shoes. He insists that I style his hair with that little curl in front. He crosses and uncrosses all of his fingers when he’s thinking. He loves sushi as much as he loves pizza and chicken nuggets, and he hates PB&J. He still calls me Mommy.

I hope he always calls me Mommy.

Scheduling note: My first available session as of now is late August. The Fall portrait months are booking up quickly. Holiday sessions always go fast! September and October are already about 50% full. Call soon to reserve your session. I am keeping a waiting list for Summer sessions, and I will do my best to accommodate newborn portrait sessions, so please feel free to contact me for either of those.

Five Pretty Princesses | Atlanta Children’s Photographer

I recently met five darling princesses and I thought you might like to meet them, too. Though rain clouds loomed and thunder grumbled in the distance, we seemed to be under a magical umbrella for our Fairytale Portrait sessions! We experienced only one very brief rain shower as we wrapped up one session and were preparing for the next. And then, as if erased by our Fairy Godmother’s wand, the rain disappeared and the sunlight came through! I have heard that it poured that night in other parts of Atlanta, so it seems we were truly under a magical spell.

I’ve only just begun editing these sessions, so I only have a few to share so far. But I know the moms and dads are so anxious for a sneak peek! All of our little royal children did a beautiful job at their sessions. I hope they loved their time spent in their own personal Fairytale.

A special thanks to Heather Lickliter of Stylized Portraiture in Athens, Georgia for sharing her incredible princess gowns and joining us for these special sessions. It was a ball!

Much love,
Shannon
