Gentlemen, consider the bar raised.

Several weeks ago, I received a call from a husband. It’s rare that the husbands call me to schedule portraits. It’s usually Mom’s job. But this husband had a plan he was crafting.

It was soon to be his wife’s birthday. For many months, they have been living in two cities. Gary is in Nashville, where he works on the air at a Christian radio station. Mardi is here in Atlanta, selling their home while their daughter finishes the school year. Gary comes home on weekends. He was planning a surprise for the weekend of his wife’s birthday.

He told me he wanted to craft a weekend of special events to let his wife know how phenomenal he thinks she is. His plans included a dancing class and a delicious dinner at the Spaghetti Factory, and hopefully a portrait session with me. I created their family portraits a few years ago, and he said his wife had been wanting some updated photographs. I was so honored to be a part of this celebration! So I happily reserved a Saturday afternoon session, and it was a blast.

This family is so full of spirit! Their love for each other, all three, just glows. Their joy is contagious. I had such a fantastic time working with them. It was hard to turn my camera off at the end!

So, Gary and Mardi, here is your sneak peek. Thank you, thank you for letting me share in your birthday celebration. It will be a very fond memory for me.

True Love

I was just archiving this session from a few weeks ago. Before I tucked the images away into storage, I really want to share a few here on the blog. This family was so warm and friendly. Their baby boy was 6 weeks old when we met, so we got a great mixture of peaceful sleepy poses and bright alert expressions. Big Sister was equally adorable and so well behaved. I loved her curiosity about my photo gear, and the way she smiled with her whole face, eyes and all.

You’ll see I’ve modified the blog to allow for larger horizontal images. It has always bugged me that images in landscape orientation have shown up so much smaller due to the constraints of the blog format. PLEASE let me know if anything with the formatting shows up wacky on your end. I’ve checked it through several different browsers and screen resolutions on my side, but since I have a Mac, there could be some Windows users out there that get very different results than me. So please help me out and speak up if something goes haywire!

On another note, March is now fully booked. I only have one weekday session appointment still available for April. Weekend sessions are booked until the end of May, and June is already 50% full! Thank you as always for your enthusiasm for my photography. I can hardly put into words how blessed I feel to have a career as an artist, and to have the opportunity to spend time with such awesome clients and their children. I have been shooting sessions every day this week – it’s been busy! So I will have some more portraits to share here on the blog soon.

I’ve got a little Valentine’s surprise I’m working on. I hope to announce it later today, if I’m able to get some computer time this afternoon to make the final tweaks. Stay tuned!
