Welcome, Clara | Atlanta Newborn Photography

I love my job. Have I mentioned that lately? My husband and I have a little saying we repeat often … “We’re fresh out of babies around here.” My youngest child just turned 4. And while I’m 99% positive their are no babies in our future as a family, I am so thankful to have a career that introduces me (and let’s me snuggle with) such beautiful babies on a regular basis! Clara was an absolute delight for our session! She was wide awake for most of it, and so calm and content. It took a while for her mommy to convince her to take a snooze, but once she did, she slept so soundly and peacefully, even through all our moving and posing her.

Isn’t her nursery darling?
This carriage was her mother’s doll carriage from her childhood. I couldn’t wait to incorporate it into our portrait session when I saw it!!

Julie and Chad, your daughter is breathtaking! Thank you for the opportunity to be her very first photographer.

Much love,
Shannon

Welcome to Atlanta! | Family Portraits in Georgia

Welcome to Atlanta, P Family! This gorgeous family was referred to me by a dear friend and incredible fellow photographer, Paula Swift. She worked with them when their first daughter was a baby, while they were living in the Boston, Massachusetts area. They recently relocated to Atlanta, and I was so honored to hear that Paula had sent them my way. She told me how great they were to work with, and she was right. Baby Demi and big sister Margo were such sweethearts, and the whole family was so natural and genuine for the camera. Those kinds of friendly, warm personalities always shine through in the final portraits. It makes for one very happy photographer, I can tell you!

Thank you, Paula, for sending this sweet family my way. And thank you, Leslie, Hunter, Margo, and Demi for sharing a morning with me. I had a wonderful time with all of you!

Princess Bella | Sandy Springs Photographer

Isn’t she lovely? Bella was a bit shy at first. She stayed close to her Mommy’s legs, not sure who this crazy lady with the camera was or if she wanted anything to do with me. Luckily, I have a daughter of my own who is just a few weeks younger than Bella, and that gave us a lot to chat about … our favorite princesses, the important details of planning a proper Royal Tea Party, etc. We became good friends soon enough, and I got to see that beautiful smile peek out.

Bella’s equally beautiful momma is someone with whom I loved spending time. I had a chance to read her blog before we met, and I was so moved by her insightful heart for God. I was very excited to meet her in person. I felt like I was chatting with an old friend. My job introduces me to so many incredible people, and it’s such a blessing to meet another sister.

And the darling white Birthday dress in the last few images … Bella’s mother was even so sweet to share this with me after our session for my own daughter’s 4th birthday! Rachel, I wish you could have heard my daughter’s squeal when she saw the dress that afternoon! Thank you again for your generosity, and thank you even more for sharing your heart. It was a blessing to spend the morning with you and your beautiful daughter.

Much love,
Shannon

While my pretty one sleeps …

“While my little one, while my pretty one, sleeps.” – from a poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson

Today is my daughter’s 4th birthday. I tucked her into bed tonight, kissing her soft curls and her tender cheeks as we said our prayers together. Each night, she thanks God for this day, for her family and friends. She asks Him to help her great-grandmother get better and to help her “have a wonderful sleep.” And each night, He does. She sleeps deeply in a warm, cozy bed, surrounded by beloved animals and dolls. Her parents are just across the hall, after all. She dreams about princesses and ponies. She doesn’t worry about bedbugs or the boogey man. She doesn’t have to. In her four tender years, she has never known true fear. Thank God.

But she has a sister on the other side of the world who probably worries every night about those things and more. Because those things are all too real in her world. Insects. Intruders. No warm, cozy bed … she sleeps on a cold, dirt or concrete floor. At 14 years old, she only recently got a blanket … quite possibly her first EVER. Mosquitoes invade as the sun sets, biting after dark and spreading their deadly malaria. And sadly, there are evils greater than malaria that may also creep in at night, and too many nights she probably sleeps alone with her young siblings while her parents are away for work. I don’t know what Fostina dreams about. I would probably be sad to know.

I ran into some of my Wiphan friends last week at a school event and they told me about this project coming up, called Operation Silent Night. I was so excited to hear about this and couldn’t wait to be a part of it. Then Andrea asked me if she could use some of the photographs from my recent trip, which of course meant the world to me. Now I can imagine some of these sweet faces I met in Zambia sleeping in peace. (If you haven’t already discovered Andrea’s blog, you must check it out. She is an amazing writer with an incredible heart. She tells the story of Operation Silent Night much more eloquently and in more detail than I can. You can watch the slideshow she created below.)

Please consider being one of the angels who delivers a peaceful, silent night to one of these children. For less than I spent today on ballet clothes for my daughter’s dance class, I can buy a foam mattress, sheets, a reed mat, a mosquito net, and a chain and lock for a child ‘s door. Please visit Wiphan’s site to donate. I’ve seen these children, been in their homes. Words cannot express what a gift this will be for them.

Thank you, and much love,
Shannon
