My Beach Boys | Atlanta Children’s Photographer

I promised to share these in my post a while back and I’m just now getting to them. Boy, this summer has been busy!!

Most photographers will tell you that their children suffer from PCS. Photographer’s Child Syndrome. I have clients often say, “You must have so many photographs of your children in your home!” Well, I do, but they aren’t always created with a willing subject. My kids are generally unimpressed with me and my camera. They roll their eyes when they see me popping a new memory card in the camera and pulling clothes out of their closet. They are sweethearts though, and they usually indulge my portrait craving anyway. And I must admit to an occasional bribe.

My middle son, Stephen, turned 6 this summer. During our vacation in the Outer Banks, I casually suggested to him that we do some of his birthday portraits on the beach. He actually agreed! He asked if he could wear his orange football shirt, and though it is a bit too big and certainly a violation of all my normal portrait clothing suggestions, I agreed. Hey, at least it highlighted his hair well! I was just so happy that he was willing to pose for me that letting him choose the clothes seemed like a worthy compromise. So I grabbed my camera and we scurried down to the beach before his mood changed.

After we’d wrapped up our mini-shoot, I ran into my husband and my oldest son on the dune walk on our way back inside. Chris told me that Matthew was feeling left out and wanted me to take some pictures of him, too. I looked at Matthew, who had changed his clothes and washed his face. He said, “I picked out a solid blue shirt, Mommy. That will be good for pictures, right?” Oh, how my heart melted! Chris smiled at me in a way that silently let me know this was all Matthew’s idea. How I love that child! So Stephen headed back to the house with his daddy, and Matthew came with me for his own portrait session.

Photographer’s Child Syndrome is cured! At least for a while. :)

Welcome, darling girl! | Alpharetta Newborn Photographer

Meet Grace. She was welcomed recently by some good friends of mine whom I met through our Small Group through our church. Shortly after our group joined about a year ago, Randy and Melissa shared with us the exciting new that their first child was on the way. It has been wonderful to share this journey with them, though I’m sure us ladies in small group heaped more than our fair share of unsolicited advice on poor Melissa!

Grace was the perfect newborn model. She was wide awake when I arrived (as she was most of the night before … poor Mommy and Daddy were so tired!) and let me capture a few images of those gorgeous bright eyes. Then she dozed off with just a little coaxing and she was mostly content to put up with all our posing throughout the rest of the session.

Her daddy is a musician, so we incorporated a few props to reflect his love of music. I thought this image just begged for a vintage conversion to go with the antique microphone. And let me say, getting a 7 pound baby asleep on a drum is no small feat! This was a first in my career. We probably spent more time on this pose than any other that morning. Mommy and Daddy were spotting their little girl just outside the frame … safety first! Finally she relaxed her little face and presto!

Randy and Melissa, thank you for sharing a morning with me, and for the opportunity to be your daughter’s first photographer. May God richly bless darling Grace all the days of her life.

Alaric, Age 3 | Atlanta Children’s Photographer

Oh, how they grow! I first met Alaric when he was just three months old. Now he is a full-fledged kid, and an amazing one at that! With each session, I am so intrigued to see the depth of his soul for such a young age. He has all the vitality and joy of a toddler, yet there is an ageless wisdom within him as well. This is another family with which I look forward to every session. Alaric’s mom and dad are always friendly and warm, always willing to just let the session unfold as it will, and always happy to let the images capture their child just as he is. This time we met at their home in Roswell, which has a fantastic backyard, lush with greenery and a creek. It was just beautiful. I could see how much Alaric loved this spot, how he never tired of exploring each nook and cranny. I’m sure he is going to make some brilliant discoveries there in the years to come.

Tomorrow | Gwinnett Maternity Photographer

She is giving birth tomorrow. Against the doctors’ given odds, my dear cousin (who is like a sister to me) will give birth tomorrow. Once again, God has blessed our family with a precious miracle. Big brother, Riley, is now 16 months old. You can read the story of Riley’s adoption here. Given the journey that led Riley to his Mommy and Daddy, and they to him, you can imagine the surprise and the incredible joy that Kim and Richard felt when they discovered they were pregnant. Without fertility treatments or medical procedures, purely by the grace of God, there is a child growing in Kim’s womb. And now, at last, we will get to meet him tomorrow.

I’ll be at the hospital tomorrow with my family. My camera batteries are charged and ready! I can hardly wait!!!

Stay tuned for his newborn portraits!
