My daughter is so excited | Atlanta Family Photographer

to see one of our “buddies” on the screen as I edit! She’s jumping up and down, saying “That’s Matthew’s Friend! That’s Matthew’s Friend!” It’s actually sounding more like, “Dayats Maffew’s Feh-und!” Yes, she has a southern accent already.

You might remember this family from last year. Their son and mine have continued to be great friends, for which I am so thankful. He’s such a fantastic kid. Us parents have become friends as well, and I really enjoy knowing their family. And naturally, it was awesome to get to photograph them again this year.

One thing that is especially nice about photographing the C family is that they have experience in front of the camera. They are very relaxed and natural, and that comes through so beautifully in the images. We had perfect weather for our evening session in Buckhead. We spent most of our time capturing the family portraits, but we also took a few minutes to create some new headshots for Jen and John. Golden sunset light, cool breeze, and three very photogenic people = another wonderful day at work for me!

Thank you, C Family, for your friendship and for the opportunity to be your photographer. It is truly my pleasure. See you soon!

Crinkled Noses | Atlanta Child Photographer

I love the faces little toddlers can make. This little one had such an adorable “silly” face, with that crinkled nose that I find irresistible. She had such a beautiful smile, too, with those soft blue eyes and radiant skin. It was a pleasure to meet these new clients, yet another referral from a wonderful client I am now calling my “PR Agent.” Thank you, as always, T!!

Miss K loves music and gave us some great smiles when we sang songs together. I had hoped for a portrait with her beautiful four legged housemate, but we didn’t have much luck convincing them to sit together. Maybe next time. They did pause to look out the window together, and I love the image I caught in that split second!

Destination Acheived, Journey Missed

I’ve had a couple of people wish me luck for this weekend. Why? Today begins the Susan G Komen 3 Day Walk. And I should be out there, lacing up my shoes in the rain, and starting the journey with a myriad of other men and women who want to make a difference in the battle against breast cancer.

But alas, I am home, still in my pjs in my warm house, listening to my kids singing songs as they eat their cheerios. You might remember that I broke my toe several weeks ago. It healed up fine and I’m back to “real life” with no trouble.

But upon doctor’s orders, I had to miss the walk this weekend. The break is freshly healed in my big toe, and the stress of a 60 mile journey on that bone would be too much. The doctor said I would likely open up that fracture again, and that could then require a pin to heal properly again. That would mean surgery and weeks of recuperation. I just couldn’t risk it.

It broke my heart more than my toe. I am so sad not to be walking with my friends this morning, rain and all. And I also feel a sense of regret regarding all of you who supported me in encouragement, prayer, and monetary donations. I feel like I have let you down. But I remind myself that it isn’t about me. It never was. It was about making a difference. It was about research, education, and progress in the battle. And through all of your support, that has happened, whether I’m walking or not. So again, I want to say thank you for being there for me and for all of the women who have battled this evil disease. All of your donations went to their intended purpose … finding a cure. One day we’ll all cross that finish line together.

I’m praying for my friends on the walk this morning, and praying for friends of friends who are in the midst of chemotherapy, radiation, and tests. God Bless all of you for your part in the journey.

Brown is the new Black | Gainesville, Georgia Photography

There is a trend amongst my clients this year … brown. I’ve had several families this season choose brown tops with jeans for their portrait wardrobe. I love it! It is perfectly harmonius with the emerging colors of Autumn. It’s warm and soothing like chocolate, yet strong and stylish. I put my own kids in brown for their holiday portraits! I think it is a fantastic choice!

Last week, I got the chance to see the C Family again, and it was such a treat! We met at their home in Gainesville, and held our session in their absolutely breathtaking back yard. The morning sun was peeking through the trees, and the lake sparkled not too far in the distance. Just incredible!

It was especially a delight to see their two kids again, to see how they’d both grown since last year. Big brother was excited to show me his skills on the slide, swings, and ladder of the playset. Little sister was content to smell the flowers and explore the yard. Both kids have beautiful spirits, each unique, but each with the obvious influence of their loving parents. This is one of those families that makes my job such a joy!
