Call off the search dogs!

I’m sorry I’ve been MIA. I really didn’t realize how long it had been since I’d posted on the blog until two people called me yesterday to ask me where I was. Thank you for your concern! It’s just been a busy two weeks. My husband was supposed to start a new job last week, but ended up with a few extra days off as his start date was delayed until this week. So in between my scheduled sessions, we tried to take advantage of the time for family and a few house projects. Cleaning out the garage – always the highlight of my year. :)

I also admit that we’ve been very spoiled by my husband’s freedom to work from home for the last several years. His new job requires that he be in the office. It’s a fantastic job all-around, and we are so thankful for this opportunity for him. The adjustment for our family will be that I am now in charge of all the school transport for our kids, and the after school time which my husband and I previously split between us. What does that mean for my clients? I hope that it won’t be a huge change for you, other than I will no longer be able to accommodate late afternoon sessions except in cases where I am able to hire a sitter. Since most of my work is photographing babies and children under 5 years old, it seems the majority of my young subjects prefer a morning portrait session anyway.

And the other milestone in my family’s life this past week is that my daughter has hit the 18 month mark. Eighteen months old!! Can you believe it?! I still look at her, a year and a half old, and I’m still in awe of her just as the day she was born. Our family would not be complete without her, yet sometimes I still can’t believe she is really here.

So here are a few shots from her very unofficial 18 month portrait session. It was “unofficial” in that I threw a solid shirt on her and carted her outside for a total of 12 minutes at nearly 6:00 the other night. I hope to plan a more official session in the next week, but this crazy weather and my crazy schedule just might overrule that.

Photographers – notice the Whibal card in her hand? I asked her to hold it for me when I was getting my camera settings, and she wouldn’t give it back!

I love this shot because it highlights her delightfully crooked eyebrow so beautifully. She is named after my mother, who had that same eyebrow. I like to call it God’s Thumbprint. I realize she might hate it and pluck it out when she’s older. But I dearly, truly love it. It makes her so unique.

The look she’ll give her daddy in 15 years when she has wrecked the car, or she wants to buy something insanely expensive.

Her darling curls. She needs a haircut soon, but I am so sad to cut these curls off, in case her hair grows straight like mine from here on.

Day 61

Our Saturday morning routine … a breakfast picnic of pop tarts and milk while watching cartoons. This weekend, the bear was invited to join the gathering. Our dogs love that the plates are on their eye level. They hover nearby with very watchful eyes until the kids toddle off to play. Unfortunately for the pups, it is rare that a pop tart is left behind.
