Locks of Love

Some of my recent clients have seen my LONG (too long??) hair, and some know that I’ve been intentionally letting it grow for a reason I felt called to. Well, the journey is complete!

I chopped my hair off and donated it to Locks of Love. For those who have no clue what I’m talking about, Locks of Love is an organization that creates human hair prosthetics for children afflicted with illnesses which cause hair loss. In some cases, they are children with cancer, dealing with the many side effects of grueling chemotherapy. In most cases, they are children with a disease called Alopecia which causes their hair loss. Whatever the reason, I’m sure you can appreciate the way these afflictions can affect a child’s precious self-esteem. I heard about Locks of Love years ago, and I’ve known some loving women and girls who have made donations. Because donated hair for wigs must be at least 10 inches long, it is no short term commitment! It took me over 18 months to grow my hair long enough, and I started with shoulder length hair!

But that time flew by in comparison to the lifetime many of these kids face. So I was honored to do it. And though I’m still getting used to having short hair again, I kind of like it!

If you would like to know more about this great organization, or would like to donate, please visit http://www.locksoflove.org/. Even donations of hair 6 to 10 inches long are appreciated, as they can use that hair to sell for much needed funding. Please note, I am not affiliated in any way with Locks of Love. I just admire what they do and believe in their cause.

Here is the new me …

I’m pleased to announce another new offer from Shannon Holden Photography. I included both of these options in my recent 2007 catalog, but I’m just getting around to announcing them here. Life and work have just been so busy!

Now available are three portrait collections, assembled from the most popular print sizes ordered from Shannon Holden Photography. Each includes a variety of print sizes, most of which are smaller prints such as 5×7′s and 8×10′s … perfect for gift giving! You may choose any variety of images to include in your collection. You are not limited to just one pose, as with other portrait packages. By choosing a collection, you will enjoy a savings on your purchase in lieu of a la carte prints, and we’ve also saved you some of the guess work! Contact me to browse the new catalog.

If you are expecting a baby in the coming months and are interested in reserving a session, please contact me as soon as possible. I am currently accepting sessions for September and later. July and August are completely full. With the holiday season not far behind that, the rest of my 2007 schedule is likely to fill very quickly. I would love the chance to meet your little one and preserve your memory of his early moments and milestones forever.

Discovery

What if we could all become children again? What would it be like to awaken each morning to a day of endless possibilities? What if we could smell the green leaves, the awakening of Spring, experience it again as if we never had before? What might the world be like, if we had the spirit to run with joy into the next moment, with nothing but dreams and discovery ahead of us?

Oh, to be a child again!

This is Miss Avery, with whom I shared a recent morning at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Her mother and I were fortunate to finish her portrait session just minutes before the rain began. Despite a little chill in the air, we had a fun morning, just following Avery on her journey of discovery.
